I went to Wales for the first time last year, as I really wanted to climb up on top of Snowdonia. We drove from Leeds to Wales and on the first day we stopped to see this beautiful castle, also part of the National trust.
Penrhyn Castle was built in the 19th century by the Pennant Family, who made their fortune from the sugar and slate industries.
The Victorian rooms were really impressive and the art collection was quite interesting. The castle has 204 rooms, 47 corridors and 34 stained glass windows.. and a lot of steps. You can’t visit everything of course ! Since we didn’t book any guided tour in advance, we were unable to join it as it was fully booked when we arrived. So we just walked by ourselves and enjoy the architecture.
Inside the property, you can also find a railway museum which is home to the restored Fire Queen the first and only surviving steam engines to be used on the Padarn Railway ! I’m not really a train buff so we didn’t spend too much time there. Instead we went outside and had a look around.
We explored the outside, had a look at the walled garden and at the plants climbing on the castle. This vibrant red ivy was so beautiful. The weather was super good and the views were gorgeous.
Very Cool.

Missed this one. One day I’d like to stay overnight in a place like this. When I was little I’d read stories about haunted castles and mansions in the UK.

In the UK, it’s possible to spend a night in a castle or very old house but it’s quite expensive. They sell package but it’s more than £100 per night !

We climbed Snowdonia through the Miner’s track. It’s the easier way to get on top. It was really hard I must say but with good equipment it’s manageable. I was quite proud of myself when I reached the top it was definitively the most difficult hike I have ever done :-)

Wow, I can’t even get my mind around that many rooms. The castle looks so well preserved and it would have been a tremendous place to visit. Look the ivy, that red colour is so striking! :)

It is incredibly well preserved. Usually the National Trust does an amazing job at preserving old buildings and they didn’t fail with that one !

How gorgeous – the architecture is amazing. I am sure you could spend hours and hours just admiring it. Seems like you guys also have had a lovely fall, as we have here in Norway.

The outside was definitively my favourite part of this castle, very eye catching. Fall is almost over now and all the trees have lost their colours. Winter is coming :P

Really like the ivy climbing up on Penrhyn Castle. It makes it look like a magical castle. Very well shot, and those architecture shots are amazing. Haha, without the tour group you can walk around at your own pace. No rush, no hurry :) Love that photo of you and Le. Very romantic ivy and very romantic shot and lovely couple ;) <3
