A visit to Penrhyn Castle

I went to Wales for the first time last year, as I really wanted to climb up on top of Snowdonia. We drove from Leeds to Wales and on the first day we stopped to see this beautiful castle, also part of the National trust.

Penrhyn Castle

Penrhyn Castle was built in the 19th century by the Pennant Family, who made their fortune from the sugar and slate industries.

The Victorian rooms were really impressive and the art collection was quite interesting. The castle has 204 rooms, 47 corridors and 34 stained glass windows.. and a lot of steps. You can’t visit everything of course ! Since we didn’t book any guided tour in advance, we were unable to join it as it was fully booked when we arrived. So we just walked by ourselves and enjoy the architecture.

Inside the property, you can also find a railway museum which is home to the restored Fire Queen the first and only surviving steam engines to be used on the Padarn Railway ! I’m not really a train buff so we didn’t spend too much time there. Instead we went outside and had a look around.

We explored the outside, had a look at the walled garden and at the plants climbing on the castle. This vibrant red ivy was so beautiful. The weather was super good and the views were gorgeous.

  2. How gorgeous – the architecture is amazing. I am sure you could spend hours and hours just admiring it. Seems like you guys also have had a lovely fall, as we have here in Norway.

  3. Really like the ivy climbing up on Penrhyn Castle. It makes it look like a magical castle. Very well shot, and those architecture shots are amazing. Haha, without the tour group you can walk around at your own pace. No rush, no hurry :) Love that photo of you and Le. Very romantic ivy and very romantic shot and lovely couple ;) <3
